CASTAGNEVIZZA MONASTERY
Castagnevizza’s Monastery truthfully is a green oasis of peace and spirituality near the border separating Italy and Slovenia. Kostanjevica includes three types of cultural other than spiritual experiences: it is in fact a monument of sacred art and a spiritual centre (the church and convent), a historical monument (in the monastery lie the remains of seven members of the Royal French Bourbon dynasty), and also a cultural monument (the convent’s library).
The Franciscan fathers who live in the convent have been looking after the monastery for over two centuries.
In 1985, the whole Kostanjevica complex (the convent with its library, the Bourbon crypt and the parish church) was proclaimed an artistic and architectural monument representing the cultural legacy of the Slovenian people.
