MONFALCONE
Above all, Monfalcone owes its fame to the shipyards, among the world’s most important. The town reveals even unknown historical traits. In the Rocca (=castle) of medieval origin, a monument symbolizing the town, there is the Palaeontological Museum, with exhibits illustrating the geological history of the town starting from 500 million years ago.
In the centre near the restored building of the old covered market, is housed the Communal Gallery of Contemporary Art, which, ever since 2004, has become a member of AMACI, the Association of Contemporary Italian Art Museums and is one of the largest exhibition venues dedicated to contemporary art in Friuli Venezia-Giulia.
