NATURAL RESERVE OF THE CAVANATA VALLEY

The Natural Reserve of the Cavanata Valley, placed in the eastern-most zone of the lagoon of Grado, is easily reachable from the small town through beautiful cycling lanes.

In the past, the area used to be employed as a fishing valley and today is an authentic birdwatching haven: on the “barene” (=clay or sandy knolls emerging in lagoons) and small beaches, live countless species of water birds, who here find the best conditions for their stay and nesting. Inside the Reserve there are some itineraries for walks, with “camouflaged” observation points, allowing to watch the fauna present, while respecting their natural habitat. Communicating with the open sea, by means of adjustable locks, is a thick network of canals and water courses, flanked by woods and clearings where many animal species take refuge.
